Mobile TV Firm Yamgo Sets Up Headquarters In Swansea

At the end of 2009, Yamgo, a company that specialises in entertainment on the move and bringing live TV to mobile phones announced that it was setting up its headquarters in Swansea where it plans to create 23 jobs over the next two years.

Supported by the Welsh Assembly Government through the Single Investment Fund, the company have moved into Technium Digital which is based at Swansea University.  Yamgo has already forged links with this area; its founder Ian Mullins is a graduate of the University and is also a former winner of the Technium Challenge business planning competition.

When interviewed, Mr Mullins remarked:  “Swansea has a number of highly qualified people working in hi-tech industries who have the right mix of skills that Yamgo is going to need as it expands.

“Add on to that the outward-looking nature of Swansea University and the willingness of the Welsh Assembly Government to help fund cutting-edge research and development and moving to Swansea made obvious sense.  And from my time here as a student, I know that it is a great place to live and work!”.

With a technology solution that delivers specifically optimised video content across all mobile networks and on to over 1,000 handsets including the iPhone and Android without the need to download software, Yamgo has the ability and expertise to stream both live television and video on demand to millions of users worldwide.  In fact, it is estimated that there will be 500 million mobile TV users worldwide by 2013!

A combination of high-quality content and an excellent user experience that enhances the personal nature of mobile devices has resulted in a growing Yamgo network of users eager to consume content wherever they are.  However, the company are more than just a delivery system; they are a network of channels and users who interact and experience, share and expand, and is quickly growing to be the one place users will go to watch high-quality mobile content – be that live TV, scheduled, or video on demand.
